SVG for Silhouette

Silhouette Studio cuts vectors, not pixels. Imalyn turns your image into an SVG with clean paths per color that imports straight into Silhouette Studio and Cameo to cut vinyl, cardstock or transfer with precision.

Direct import

You download a standard SVG that opens in Silhouette Studio with no extra steps.

Layers per color

Each color is its own layer: perfect for multi-layer and registering each cut pass.

Contours for cutting

Smooth, closed edges instead of staircases, for precise cuts.

Why Silhouette Studio needs SVG

Silhouette Studio and Cameo machines cut by following vector paths, not pixels. A PNG or JPG doesn’t tell the machine where to run the blade: you’d have to «trace» the image by hand inside the software, with jagged results. An SVG, by contrast, already carries each contour as a clean cut line.

Imalyn turns any image into that import-ready SVG, with the colors separated, so you go from file to cut in minutes.

From image to cut, step by step

Upload your design (PNG, JPG or WebP) and, if it has a background, erase it with the wand to keep just the figure. When vectorizing, each color is traced as a smooth, closed curve. Download the SVG and import it into Silhouette Studio (File → Open or by dragging it in).

Inside the software, assign each color layer to its material and cut pass. Being vector, you scale the design to the exact size of your sheet without losing precision.

Multi-layer vinyl and color registration

For a multi-color design, cut each layer on its vinyl and stack them: because they all come with the same position and clean contours, the registration lines up. This is key for outlined lettering, multi-ink logos or sticker-style illustrations.

The vector’s smooth contours avoid the staircase a pixelated image leaves, so the cut comes out clean even on small shapes.

What cuts well with Silhouette

The best results come from flat-color designs and clear silhouettes: logos, monograms, phrases, icons, shapes. Photos with gradients have no defined contours, so they’re not suitable for cutting. If your image is flat-color, Imalyn gives you a clean SVG in seconds.

Free, you vectorize and download the SVG; with Pro you cut without limits and also export to PDF and EPS if your workflow needs it.

Three steps. Nothing to install.

01

Provide the image

Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP —or describe it and let AI generate it in a flat style—. Crop it if you only want a part.

02

Vectorize

The engine analyzes the strokes and rebuilds each shape as smooth curves, preserving intended peaks and corners.

03

Edit & export

Compare before/after, fine-tune and download as SVG, PDF or EPS. Scale to any size without pixelating.

— Frequently asked questions

SVG for Silhouette

Does the SVG open in Silhouette Studio?

Yes. It’s a standard SVG; SVG editing is available in Silhouette Studio (Business Edition for some versions).

Does it separate colors into layers?

Yes, each color is vectorized as its own layer, ideal for multi-layer designs.

Which images work best?

Flat-color designs and clear silhouettes. Photos with gradients aren’t suitable for cutting.

Do I need Business Edition for SVG?

Modern versions of Silhouette Studio import SVG; in some older editions SVG import was reserved for the Business Edition. If yours won’t open SVG, update Silhouette Studio. The file we give you is a standard SVG, compatible with both.

How do I register the layers for multi-layer?

Since each color comes out on its own layer in the same position, cutting them separately means they line up when stacked. In Silhouette Studio you can select by color and send each to its material and pass.
